How to play 2048
2048 is a single-player sliding puzzle. Every move shifts all the tiles in one direction at once:
- Slide. Press an arrow key — or swipe — to push every tile as far as it can go in that direction.
- Merge. When two tiles with the same number collide, they combine into a single tile worth double, and your score goes up by that amount.
- Grow. A new 2 or 4 tile appears after each move. Keep merging to reach the 2048 tile.
- Survive. The game ends when the board is full and no merges are possible — so plan ahead and keep space open.
Tips for a higher score
- Pick one corner and keep your biggest tile there; never move in the direction that would pull it away.
- Build a descending “staircase” of values next to that corner so merges chain naturally.
- Make most of your moves along two directions to keep the board orderly.
