How to play Bagh-Chal

You command the goats against the computer's four tigers on a 5x5 grid of points joined by lines. First, place your 20 goats one at a time on any empty point — goats cannot move until all 20 are down, while the tigers move every turn along the lines. A tiger captures a goat by leaping over one goat, in a straight line, to the empty point just beyond. Once all your goats are placed you may slide each one step along a line. Win by hemming in every tiger so none can move; you lose if the tigers ever capture five goats.

Bagh-Chal — frequently asked questions

How do tigers capture goats?

A tiger jumps over a single adjacent goat in a straight line along a drawn line, landing on the empty point immediately beyond it. The leapt goat is removed. Tigers win once five goats have been captured.

Why can't I move my goats?

During the opening you may only place goats, one per turn, until all twenty are on the board. After the last goat is placed, goats may step one point along any line to an adjacent empty point.

How do the goats win?

Goats never capture — they win by completely blocking the tigers. If it becomes the tigers' turn and no tiger has any legal step or leap, the goats have trapped them and win the game.
