How to play Cricket: Batting

The bowler runs in and delivers the ball toward your bat. Tap the screen or press Space to swing — the trick is timing: connect as the ball reaches the highlighted sweet spot. Choose a direction first with (leg side) or (off side), or tap the left/right half of the pitch. Perfect timing with a chosen side lofts a six; a straight perfect drive races away for four; good timing scores singles. Mistime a lofted shot and a fielder can catch you, and leaving a straight ball gets you bowled. Bat until you're out or your 12 balls are done, and pile up as many runs as you can.

Cricket: Batting — frequently asked questions

How do I hit a six or a four?

Time your swing so the ball is right in the sweet-spot window. A perfectly timed shot with a leg-side or off-side direction is lofted for six; a perfectly timed straight shot (no direction chosen) is driven along the ground for four.

How can I get out?

Two ways: a mistimed lofted shot can be caught by a fielder, and if you leave or miss a straight delivery that is on the stumps, you are bowled. Good timing keeps you safe and scoring.

How long is an innings?

You bat until you are out or until you have faced 12 balls, whichever comes first. Your total runs are your score — beat your best each time.
