Grid Command

Read the bugs’ telegraphed attacks, then push them so they hit nothing.

Tap a piece, then tap its destination

Grid Command is a turn-based tactics puzzle inspired by Into the Breach: it is not about out-damaging the swarm, it is about positioning. You defend an 8×8 island with three original mechs: the Titan (a melee Ram Fist that punches for 2 and shoves a bug back one tile), the Howitzer (an Arc Mortar that lands anywhere in range, dealing 1 and pushing the four tiles around the blast outward), and Vulcan (a Rail Shot that fires down a row or column, hitting the first bug for 1 and knocking it back). Every enemy shows its next move as a red telegraph (the exact tile it will hit), so on your turn you click a mech, click a blue tile to move, then pick its weapon and click a target. The trick is that a bug’s attack is locked to a direction, so if you shove the bug one tile sideways its shot now flies past the building and hits nothing, another bug, or drops the bug into the water where it drowns. Kill what you can and redirect the rest. Your buildings share one Grid Power pool shown at the top; every hit that lands on a building drains it, and if it reaches zero the run ends. Watch for water (shove bugs in to instantly kill them), mountains and board edges (a bug bumped into them takes collision damage), and fire tiles (they burn whatever stands on them). Survive the set number of turns to clear the mission, then push on through five escalating missions carrying your grid with you. Use Undo freely to try a plan, and End Turn when you are ready. Your score is the number of missions you clear.

Grid Command: frequently asked questions

How do I actually stop the bugs in Grid Command?

Read the red telegraphs: each shows exactly where a bug will strike next turn. On your turn, move a mech and fire a weapon to either kill the bug or push it so its locked-direction attack misses the building, hits another bug, or shoves it into water. It is a positioning puzzle, so redirecting an attack is often better than trading damage.

What do the three mechs do?

The Titan punches an adjacent bug for 2 damage and knocks it back a tile. The Howitzer lobs a mortar onto any tile in range, dealing 1 to whatever is there and pushing the four surrounding tiles outward, great for scattering a cluster. Vulcan fires a rail shot straight down a row or column, hitting the first bug for 1 and shoving it back. Each mech can move and fire once per turn, in either order.

How do I win or lose a mission?

Your buildings share one Grid Power pool at the top of the screen. Every enemy attack that lands on a building drains it; if it hits zero, the run is over. Clear a mission by surviving its set number of turns with power to spare. Then you carry your grid into the next of five escalating missions. Your best result is the number of missions cleared.

Is Grid Command free and does it work on mobile?

Yes. It runs free in your browser with no download or sign-up, and the click-a-mech, tap-a-tile controls work with touch as well as a mouse. There is also an Undo button so you can experiment with a turn before committing to it.

Is Grid Command free to play?

Yes. Grid Command is completely free on Inkplay, with no download, no sign-up, and no in-game purchases. Open the page and play instantly on desktop or mobile.

Can I play Grid Command unblocked?

Yes. Grid Command runs entirely in your browser with no download, install, or plugins, so it loads instantly and keeps working even on school or work networks where bigger game sites get blocked.
