How to play Shikaku

Divide the whole grid into rectangles. Drag across the grid to draw a rectangle; drawing over an existing one replaces it, and right-clicking or tapping a rectangle erases it. Every rectangle must contain exactly one number, and that number must equal the rectangle's area (its number of cells). You win when the entire grid is split into rectangles and every number matches its rectangle.

Shikaku — frequently asked questions

What does each number mean?

A number is the area — the total cell count — of the single rectangle it belongs to. A 6 marks a rectangle of six cells, such as 2×3 or 1×6.

Do the rectangles have to fill the whole grid?

Yes. A complete solution covers every cell exactly once, with each rectangle containing exactly one number equal to its area.

How do I erase a rectangle I drew?

Right-click it (or tap a single cell inside it), or just drag a new rectangle over it to replace it.

Is Shikaku free to play?

Yes — Shikaku is completely free on Inkplay, with no download, no sign-up, and no in-game purchases. Open the page and play instantly on desktop or mobile.

Can I play Shikaku unblocked?

Yes. Shikaku runs entirely in your browser with no download, install, or plugins, so it loads instantly and keeps working even on school or work networks where bigger game sites get blocked.
